[SW025] 11/13/2011 Message notes from KJV by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2011
“The King of Glory”
HIS GLORY! WE WILL SEE IT! AND HIS GLORY WILL RISE UPON US!
Isaiah 40:5 Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
And all flesh will see it together;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
Isaiah 60:2 “For behold, darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the LORD will rise upon you
And His glory will appear upon you.
BUT HOW CAN THAT BE? WE ALL LACK THE GLORY OF GOD.
Romans 3:23 . . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
–We all have sinned and lack (5302 hustereo) the glory of God
–How can we receive the glory of God?
–When we believe in Jesus Christ, He makes us the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).
–That is, when we believe in Christ Jesus, we are made right with God.
–Jesus Christ is the Source of the glory we may have here and now and eternally!
–Let me show it to you!
FIRST, WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES OF THIS GLORY?
This glory is freeing, not only for us but for God’s creation that was corrupted when Adam sinned. The Spirit-inspired Apostle Paul says:
Romans 8:21 . . . the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
This glory is always increasing, here and now:
2Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
This glory is found in Christ’s face, by looking to Him:
2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
This glory is eternal:
2 Timothy 2:10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.
To love and believe in Christ brings this glory:
1 Peter 1:8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
John 15:11 “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.”
–It comes from within because HE is within!
Because this glory rests on us, we will be reviled:
1 Peter 4:14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
DO NOT DESPAIR! YOU ARE BLESSED! AND:
Isaiah 51:7 “Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,
A people in whose heart is My law;
Do not fear the reproach of man,
Nor be dismayed at their revilings.
Isaiah 51:8 “For the moth will eat them like a garment,
And the grub will eat them like wool.
But My righteousness will be forever,
And My salvation to all generations.”
FIRST, WE LOOKED AT THE QUALITIES OF THIS GLORY: FREEING, ALWAYS INCREASING, FOUND IN CHRIST’S FACE, ETERNAL, AND TO LOVE AND BELIEVE IN CHRIST BRINGS THIS GLORY TO US. WE WILL BE REVILED, BUT WE ARE BLESSED WHEN WE ARE! THIS GLORY IS GLORIOUS INDEED! SO WHO HAS THIS GLORY IN THEM? THE QUALITIES OF THOSE WHO HAVE THIS GLORY IN THEM.
–Verse 3: The Lord tells us, through David, who is able to ascend to the hill of the Lord and stand in His holy place (that’s where the glory is!)
–Verse 4: He who has clean hands (who does not do evil deeds) and a pure heart (this one shall see God, says Jesus in Matthew 5:8)
–What is a pure heart? Our motive is God’s love inside us, we have no desire for evil, we only desire the one true God and His Son Jesus Christ.
–It is a heart filled with God’s love (Romans 5:5)
–Verse 4: He who has not taken upon himself falsehood (evil, ruin, artful deception)
–Verse 4: He who has not made an oath or declared something deceitfully
–Verse 6: Those who seek the face of God obtain it (remember 2 Corinthians 4:6–the glory of God is in the face of Christ!)
What do those who have this glory receive?
–Verse 5: A blessing from the LORD, spiritual prosperity. God will speak goodness over that one’s life.
–Verse 5: And righteousness from the God of his salvation (remember 2 Corinthians 5:21–the righteousness of God in Christ!)
On our own, we cannot become what David describes in verses 1-4 and 6! We cannot obtain this glory. But Christ will answer you turn from your sin, if you ask Him to forgive you! He will then begin this transformation into His image.
HOW DO WE OBTAIN THIS GLORY, ONCE WE POSSESS THE QUALITIES OF VERSES 4 AND 6?
Verse 7: Lift up your head, O gate! Literally lift up your head! Stand up and see the salvation of your God (Exodus 14:13)!
Verse 7: And you, O door, will be lifted up, carried, accepted, forgiven, released! You, O door, will be opened!
Verse 7: And Someone will come in! Who? The King of glory (kabod, weightiness, splendor)! The One from whom this glory comes! The One who possesses it! The king possesses what his title indicates; for instance, King of England possesses and rules over England (same for Saudi Arabia)
Who is that King who possesses glory? God! Father, Son and Spirit!
Verse 8: He is strong and mighty! Mighty in battle!
Verse 9: Again, lift up your heads! Be lifted up! Do it now, do it quickly (spoken twice to infer quickness of action)
Verse 9: And who will come in? The King of glory! He will come IN! INTO YOU! The Father and the Son will live there (John 14:13)!
Verse 10: Who is this King of glory?
Verse 10: The LORD of hosts, the Almighty God, the God of Israel, the Warrior King, the One enthroned on the judgment seat (1 Samuel 4:4), who will bless you and fill you with the glory of God! Who is enthroned on the judgment seat? Jesus Christ, per John 12:48, Acts 10:42, 2 Timothy 4:1.
Jesus Christ possesses this glory! He is the King of glory!
John 7:37-39 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” (THE GLORY!) “But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit (THE GLORY!) was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
MANKIND WAS MEANT TO POSSESS THE GLORY OF GOD. WE LOST IT WHEN ADAM SINNED.
–WILL YOU SEEK HIS FACE, THAT YOU MAY RECEIVE HIS GLORY? (He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him — Hebrews 11:6!)
–WILL YOU REPENT OF YOUR SIN, ASKING HIM TO GIVE YOU CLEAN HANDS? SIN IS WHAT SEPARATES US FROM GOD (Isaiah 59:2).
–WILL YOU ASK JESUS CHRIST TO MAKE YOUR HEART PURE, THAT YOU MAY SEE GOD?
–IF YOU DO THESE THINGS, THEN LIFT UP YOUR HEAD!
–THE KING OF GLORY WILL COME IN!
