SMOOTH THINGS

“Smooth Things”

Today, the Lord let this watchman look into His heart and tell you what He showed me there.

He offers us hope, a promise to change our hearts
so we respond to His every whisper, His every breath!

All we need to do is repent.
That doesn’t mean just letting go of something we have a grip on.
Those are just outward symptoms of inward rebellion.

It means understanding our inward spiritual condition
that seed of rebellion deep within us,
and crying out to a merciful, holy God,
“Change us!”

I wrote this on my blog and on Facebook Thursday:

“It is as it was in the days of Elijah.
The double-edged sword that is the Word of God
is preached as if it’s made of rubber.
No deep penetration into hearts and Satan laughs.

“And more and more water, even ice water,
is being poured on the gospel of Jesus Christ (diluting it).

“Like Elijah, I don’t care how much water is poured on the altar of God!
When I call on Him, I know He comes down!

“May it be to such a degree that the people must declare,
‘The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!’”

A watered-down, diluted Word that will not transform.
A rubber Word that does not penetrate because it has no sharpness.

It’s the day of preaching smooth things, things that flatter the people.

Go to Isaiah 30:8-13:

8 Now go, write it on a tablet before them
And inscribe it on a scroll,
That it may serve in the time to come
As a witness forever.

Lord, I am writing Your words on this tablet right now! May they serve as a witness to Your church, evidence that You did speak to warn.

9 For this is a rebellious people, false sons,
Sons who refuse to listen
To the instruction of the LORD;

Isaiah speaks this to the church of the day.
I speak this to the church of TODAY.

Many in the church refuse (abah 14) Your instruction, Your teaching, Lord. They are are not willing to listen when it is preached in its undiluted, double-edged state.

10 Who say to the seers,“You must not see visions”;
And to the prophets,“You must not  prophesy to us what is right,
Speak to us pleasant words [smooth things],
Prophesy illusions [deceptions].

11 “Get out of the way, turn aside from the path,
Let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”

Get out of our way. Turn aside from our path, prophet of God! What is this about being holy as He is holy, Apostle Peter?

Leviticus 11:45 ‘ For I am the LORD who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God; thus  you shall be holy, for I am holy.’”

Matthew 5:48 “Therefore   you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

1 Peter 1:16 because it is written, “ YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
We’ve never heard that, and we don’t want to hear it.
There’s no need to be holy, set apart, not like the world around us.
We want the world to like us.
We reject what you say,
Father and Jesus Christ and Peter.

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,
“ Since you have rejected this word
And have put your trust in oppression [injury, fraud, deceit]
and guile [literally, perversity],
and have relied on them,

13 Therefore this iniquity will be to you
Like a breach about to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant . . .

Speak to us pleasant things, prophesy deceptions.
Heal us broken ones superficially, making light of our sin.
Say “Peace, peace, when there is no peace between us and God.”
(see Jeremiah 6:14)

We want to continue on OUR path.
We don’t want to hear from the Holy One of Israel
Who reproves us for our sin, through His prophets.

We want to hear pleasant things.
Literally, smooth (2513 chelqah) things.
We want you to flatter us with your tongue.

[The retreat I attended . . . they’d been taught they were princesses
though many were sinning,
and they revolted against the speaker
when she said God wanted to change them.]

Verse 13 — I see something as I stand on the wall! Watch out, O church. Your wall is bulging!

Much of what is preached today is people-pleasing,
and not God-pleasing.
We call evil good and good evil.
A humanistic perversion of the gospel is preached.

Humanism:  An outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.

Sound familiar?
I won’t name names.
Many preachers of this have great big churches
People love to be flattered by  them.
But God is not flattered, nor is He pleased!

Malachi 2:17  You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, “How have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights in them,”or, “Where is the God of  justice?”

We can do evil and God will delight (desire and show pleasure) in us.
After all, God simply doesn’t exercise His justice toward us any more.

We’re weary of giving You sacrifices.
But God says He’s weary of them.
He’s tired of their sin.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

The scribes, the experts,
those who know the Word of God like the backs of their hands,
have lying pens.
They know what God’s Word says.
But they turn it around.
Listen to the Lord’s words to them,
spoken through Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 8:8  “How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the LORD is with us’?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
Has made it into a lie.
9 “The wise men are  put to shame,
They are dismayed and caught;
Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD,
And what kind of wisdom do they have?

Many top-level leaders in the church say we must stress the happy side of Jesus, what He can do for US, rather than our need to REPENT for our sins in order to meet God’s righteous requirements.

They say Jesus made the crowds happy.
They were delighted by the good things He did for them.
But what does the Word really say about the crowds’ reactions to Jesus,
and more importantly, what Jesus expected them to do
when He performed miracles?

Matthew 7:28 When Jesus had finished these words [the Sermon on the Mount], the crowds were amazed at His teaching;  29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. Amazed — 1605 ekplesso; from 1537 and 4141; to strike out, hence to strike with panic, to amaze: —amazed(5), astonished(8).

Matthew 9:8 But when the crowds saw this [the paralyzed man pick up his mat and walk], they were awestruck (see definition), and  glorified God, who had given such authority to men. 5399 phobeo; from 5401; to put to flight, to terrify, frighten: —afraid(41), am afraid(2), fear(27), feared(5), fearful(2), fearing(6), fears(2), filled with awe(1), frightened(6), have fear(1), respect(1).

What was the expected result, per Jesus’ denouncement of Chorazin and Bethsaida in Matthew 11:20?

Matthew 11:20   Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His   miracles were done, because they did not repent.  21 “ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you,  Bethsaida [God’s people]! For if the  miracles had occurred in  Tyre and  Sidon [pagain cities] which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.”

Sackcloth and ashes! Mourning over their spiritual condition! Repentance!
But many who called themselves God’s people did not repent.
Woe to them, Jesus said!

REALITY CHECK:

The Lord longs to be gracious to you, O church that is seeking ear-tickling words!

Isaiah 30:18  Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you [He is waiting 2442]  And therefore He waits [He is waiting 2442] on high to have compassion on you.  For the LORD is a God of justice; how blessed are all those who long for Him.

What’s the Lord waiting for?
He’s waiting for you to repent, to see your heart and ask Him to change it.

Have you begun to long for Him because of His words to you today?
Are you now seeking after Him?
Then you are blessed.

If you continue to seek the ear-ticklers,
the humanists of today’s church,
He’ll see to it that the wall you’re leaning on develops a bulge
and collapses.
He SO wants you to repent, He’ll do whatever it takes!

What happens to those who begin to long for Him
and seek Him who longs to be gracious if we will simply repent?

Is. 30:19    O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will  answer you.  20 Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher.  21 Your ears will hear a word behind you,“This is the  way, walk in it,” whenever you  turn to the right or to the left.  22 And you will defile your graven  images overlaid with silver, and your molten  images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing, and say to  them, “ Be gone!”

Now, cry out! Repent!
You will weep no longer.
He will be gracious to you.
He hasn’t really hidden Himself, but You couldn’t hear Him
because of your sin.

When you repent,
your eyes will BEHOLD your Teacher!
He will make your heart pure
by filling you with the Holy Spirit!
The pure in heart WILL see God!

You will no longer be on that path
the one you told God’s prophets to leave,
the one that leads to destruction,
the one that many are on.

You’ll reject and scatter humanism
as an impure thing.

You’ll be on His path, the narrow one,
and you will personally hear His voice, in your heart OR audibly.

If you veer in the slightest to the left or the right,
He will say, “This is the way; walk in it!”

How long will you hesitate between two opinions?
If the Lord is God, follow Him (see 1 Kings 18:21)!

It is no longer possible for you to hesitate,
to sit on the fence.
You’ve heard the truth.
Come to God’s side,
for He longs to be gracious to you.

See 1 Kings 18:24ff for the following:

O God who answers by fire,
You are God — not us!
Save us from our humanism!

Answer me, O Lord!
Your altar which cleanses
has had much water poured on it,
but answer me with fire,
so that this people may know that You, O Lord, are God!

Turn the hearts of Your people back to you
by answering with fire, the fire of the Holy Spirit!
Fire of the Lord, fall and consume the burnt offering
and lick up ALL the water!
Let this word go forth in all its sharpness,
and undiluted,
so your people may be truly healed
of their sin.
