ZEAL FOR HIS HOUSE

I’m burning up with zeal for my Father’s house, that it be a house of prayer for all peoples, that it be full of His power and glory!

“Zeal For His House”

John 2:17 His  disciples remembered that it was written, “ ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME.”

Psalms 69:9 For  zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And  the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

I have great zeal for the House of the Lord,
which is both the church as a whole,
and individual believers who follow Christ!

Zeal — Ardor, enthusiasm, passion, jealousy.
It consumes me, eats me up, burns me up!

What His house is to be:

His habitation where His glory dwells (Psalms 26:8)!

A place of deliverance (Psalms 32:7)!

Those who dwell there are blessed,
and they continually praise the Lord! (Psalms 84:4)

Everything in it cries “Glory!” (Psalms 29:9)

His glory fills His house,
and everyone falls down (1Kings 8:10-11, 2Chronicles 5:14)!

The bread of His presence is there; literally, His face (Exodus 25:30)!

And in His presence,
His people find a secret place,
a place where they are covered,
where they are under His wings
and hidden from enemy attacks (Psalms 31:20 and 91:1, 4).

When His presence enters His house,
it becomes for His people a place of liberty,
a wide space,
a broad place (Psalms 119:45)!

Jesus Christ came to set us free from sin and into His liberty (John 8:31-36)!

Since Christ came, WE are to be His temple, His house (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)!

His house is to be in us —
both the Father and the Son permanently dwelling in our bodies  (John 14:23)!

We are to die (to our old nature)
so Christ dwells in us,
making us hidden with Him in God (Colossians 3:3)!

What Jesus found in the temple, the Lord’s house, when He walked the earth:

–Lying scales! It was a den of robbers (Matthew 21:13).

Local money had to be exchanged for temple money.
The scales were loaded in favor of the temple.
Business was conducted for unjust gain.

Those who traveled far had to buy their sacrificial animals there.
The prices were jacked up for profit.

But even more,
the people who came were robbed of the majesty and presence of God.
The temple was empty.
His presence had departed, for their hearts were twisted by sin —
their greed and their religiousness,
all pomp and no power.

It was a form of religion, while denying its power (dunamis) (2 Timothy 3:1ff).

And those who robbed actually dwelled there —
it was their den, where they planned their next caper.

–He also found lip service,
with hearts far from Him,
so far they didn’t even recognize God in the flesh!
(Mt. 15:8-9, Isaiah 29:13)

Upon seeing this, what did Jesus do?

Zeal for His house consumed Him (John 2:17, Psalm 69:9)!

So He took a whip of cords (John 2:15)
and destroyed all of that (Matthew 21:14)!

And He has said my words today would be a whip of cords,
not to condemn you,
but to wake you up, O church!

What Jesus finds in today’s church:

–Merchandising (believers selling teachings, books, videos, anointing oil from Jerusalem and other religious paraphernalia)

–Marketing strategies and techniques (so the church looks like the world and the world thereby is attracted to it)

–Entertainment

–Lip service

–A form of religion while denying its power (again, 2 Timothy 3:1ff)

–Sin. Much of the church sins the same sins as the world around her.

–Few filled with the Spirit
whom He considered essential for the church
because He gives us power over sin
and removes our selfishness (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, 8).

Acts 1:4  Gathering them together, He commanded them  not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for   what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;

Acts 1:8 but you will receive power  when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be  My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and  Samaria, and even to  the remotest part of the earth.”

–Things of the Spirit not even taught!

–Desolation, deadness.
He is outside the church,
knocking on individual hearts
because the Spirit is not welcome in many churches
(Revelation 3:14-22).

The consequences:

When they stand before Him (2Corinthians 5:10)
at His judgment seat,
will not their hands be empty (2Corinthians 6:1)?

John 2:13    The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus  went up to Jerusalem.  14  And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. 15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;  16 and to those who were selling  the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making  My Father’s house a  place of business.” 17 His  disciples remembered that it was written, “ ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME.”

Psalms 69:8 I have become  estranged  from my brothers
And an alien to my mother’s sons.
9 For  zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And  the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

I have become estranged from my brothers and sisters in the Lord,
an alien, a dinosaur among them.

Why? Because ardor, enthusiasm passion, jealousy,
consumes me, eats me up, burns me up!

If I tried not to speak what He commands me to speak,
His words would become like a burning fire in my heart,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I cannot hold it in! (Jeremiah 20:9)

I am jealous for the Church with a godly jealousy,
that I may present her to Jesus Christ, a spotless and blameless bride:

2Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I  betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might  present you as a pure virgin.

I feel in my own person the disgrace and scorn and taunting and contempt the world has for Jesus Christ and His church.

I feel in my own person the disgrace much of the church earns
with her sinning ways.
We sin just like the world,
we have no victory,
we worship what they worship
and have become like them, beloved!

Psalms 115:4, 8 Their  idols are silver and gold,
The  work of man’s hands . . .
Those who make them  will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

Many who say they are His houses cannot possibly be,
because He does not dwell where there is sin.

As I look from the watchman’s tower,
I see little fruit of the Spirit in much of the church
because her sin separates her from God (Isaiah 59:2).

The Lord said, “Let your words be a whip of cords.”

There is but one thing needful (Luke 10:42)!
Worship in Spirit and in truth, which is possible only if we have pure hearts!

John 4:23 “But  an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father  in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 “God is  spirit, and those who worship Him must worship  in spirit and truth.”
Who may stand on His holy hill?
He who has clean hands (our deeds) and a pure heart! (see Psalms 24:3)

If my words seem like a whip of cords to you,
it is really the Holy Spirit convicting you, beloved.

What must you do to be saved?

No longer walk in unbelief, saying Jesus can’t make you pure.

Repent! Turn from your sin!

It is still the year of the Lord’s favor.

Jesus said to the Jews when He walked the earth, and says to the church today:

Luke 4:18 “ THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME,
BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR.
[the poor in spirit]
HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES,
[those who are captives to sin]
AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE [spiritually and physically] BLIND,
TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED [by the devil],

Luke 4:25 “But I say to you in truth, there were many widows in Israel  in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; 26 and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but  only to  Zarephath, in the land of  Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 “And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but  only Naaman the Syrian.” 28 And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things;  29 and they got up and  drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff.

Do not be offended and try to throw me off the brow of a hill.
Hear His words, His truth.

Ask Jesus to set you free! He will do it!I have great zeal for the House of the Lord,
