REWARDS TO THE STEADFAST

[SW146] 07/18/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Rewards to the Steadfast”

There are great rewards if we remain steadfast in Christ. But I must warn you of the dangers you face and exhort you to baptized in the Holy Spirit so you may stand!

NOTE: Please go to the link to the video sermon to get the message; the following is an outline.

The rewards:

Even now —

Fellowship with Father and Son (1John 1:3)

Father and Son indwelling us (John 14:23)

His peace (John 14:27)

His actual love inside of us (John 17:26)

Clothed with power from on high (Luke 24:49)

Baptized in the Holy Spirit, receiving power (Acts 1:5, 8)

And yet to come —

2Timothy 4:8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

James 1:12    Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has  been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord  has promised to those who love Him.

1Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

2Peter 3:13 But according to His  promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord  Himself  will descend from heaven with a  shout, with the voice of  the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

The dangers:

2Peter 2:1   But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even  denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

Matthew 7:22 “ Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many  miracles?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you;  DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’”

Matthew 24:10 “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.”

1Timothy 1:18   This command I entrust to you, Timothy,  my  son, in accordance with the  prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight,  19 keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.

The exhortation:

2Peter 3:11-12, 14, 17-18 [NOTE: v. 17 unprincipled = lawless = sinning, per 1John 3:4].

1Corinthians 15:58    Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Colossians 1:22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach —  23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the  hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed  in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

How can you stand steadfast if you do not know the Word? How can you stand steadfast if you have no intimacy with God? How can you stand steadfast if you are not clothed with power from on high?

The means to prevent us from falling:

2Peter 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied to you in  the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;  3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and  excellence. 4  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent  promises, so that by them you may become  partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in  the world by lust.

Romans 12:1   Therefore  I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,  acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.  2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the  renewing of your mind, so that you may prove [1381, in this context, to experience the truth of] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Be baptized in the Holy Spirit, filled with God’s love so that your only desire is to obey Him. He will give you the power to obey and the power to be steadfast!

Be steadfast, beloved, regardless of the pressure to conform. You will surely reap the rewards! The Lord led me to end with this:

Revelation 3:11 “‘ I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
