MAGNIFYING GLASSES

“Magnifying Glasses”

NOTE:  These sermon notes are brief, but you can go to the Youtube link to the right of this blog to watch the message.

When I was first filled with the Holy Spirit and was learning to walk in the Spirit, my mentor and pastor, David “Doc” Uber, came to me with a word from God. He said, “The Lord says you are to be transparent but not invisible.” I asked, “What does that mean?”
He said, “I have no idea!”

So I prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to explain the riddle to me. I write in my journal nearly every day, during my early morning devotional time. One day, as I wrote, a lightbulb went off — the Holy Spirit showed me that a magnifying glass is transparent, but not invisible. You can see its frame and its handle, but the magnifying part is transparent! The Lord told me I was to be His magnifying glass, and it is true for each one who says they follow Jesus Christ, beloved.

Text: 2 Samuel 7:10-11, 22, 25-26

God made David a house, and David’s response was one of humility, humbleness and contriteness before God. Who am I? I am nothing, yet you have chosen to make me a house. It is true of all of us who realize that God wants to come and dwell in our hearts, as Jesus speaks in John 14:23! We realize our littleness, and His greatness.

David goes on to proclaim the Lord’s greatness — and in Verse 25-26, David shows us the purpose of making him a house — so the name of the Lord would be magnified forever. Think of the many Psalms written by David, in which he speaks and sings of the Lord’s greatness! He will do the same in us, when we realize He wants to make us a house and come and dwell in us! We, too, will become His magnifying glasses!

Another voice of a magnifying glass is heard in Paul, in Philippians 3:7-14, and Galatians 2:20. There is a cost to becoming a magnifying glass. You must realize your littleness to see His greatness. You must die to the “old you” so He can live through you. And you must see that all good works and great accomplishments are as dung, compared to knowing Jesus Christ intimately. You must utterly reject your old life in order to have His life. But when you do, He makes your life GLORIOUS, filling you with His glory, His mightiness, His weightiness, and you cannot contain yourself — you must proclaim all that He has done, all that He is, all that He will do for anyone who will come to Him!

But beloved, some of you sit under teaching that says Jesus is small, that He worried, that he was depressed, that He was unsure. I have heard this in messages from leaders of denominations, from professors, from preachers! I have heard that Jeremiah was bipolar, and that other prophets were delusional. God help us!

Rather than becoming magnifying glasses who declare the greatness of God, these voices look at him through the wrong end of binoculars, and have miniaturized God!!!

Do not listen to them! Run from them! Find one who has become a magnifying glass, and listen and heed and do what the Word of God says.

Ask God to make you a house for His immensity, and you will become His magnifying glass!

GIVER OF ONE HEART

[SW164] 12/12/2014 message notes by Sister Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Giver of One Heart”

The Lord God will give us one heart and one way so that we will not turn away from Him any more. He is the Giver of one heart!

Text: Jeremiah 32:37-41

I love to subtitle this section “I will,” because only God can do what He prophesies through Jeremiah in this passage! [In no way can we do it on our own or “work it up.”]

What will He do?

Verse 37 — Gather us from the place He put us in His anger, wrath, and great indignation, and bring us back to an intimate relationship with Him! And we will dwell in safety (a place of refuge and trust)! Selah!

Verse 38 — We will be His people and He will be our God (Him alone!).

How will He keep us from straying again? He tells us in Verse 39 and forward.

NOTE: This prophecy was fulfilled at the time of Nehemiah, in the natural. But the people still strayed afterwards, even in Nehemiah’s day (see Nehemiah 13). So this prophecy must go beyond Israel at the time of Nehemiah. Indeed, it is a Messianic prophecy as well — a prophecy of what God will do through His Son’s sacrifice and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

It is then that . . .

Verse 39 — He will give us one heart (echad leb), “one” meaning united, alike. He will give us one heart — HIS.

He will give us one united, alike way (derek), “way” meaning path or road — HIS way. This way is the highway of holiness (Isaiah 35:8), the narrow way (Matthew 7:13-14). Beloved, all of us have gone astray, everyone to His own way, but GOD will give us HIS way, if we ask Him! But to ask Him means we have understood that our own way is wrong and leads to disaster and death.

Why will He do this?

Verse 39 — So we fear Him (revere and are awed by Him and hold Him above all other things). Fear also pertains to worship. We will worship Him and Him alone — not ourselves, and not the world. We will do this ALWAYS! Our fear of Him will not diminish. It is for our own good and the good of our offspring.

Verse 40 — He will make an EVERLASTING covenant (the first one was broken by Israel, per Isaiah 24:5), promising that He will  not turn away from us and promising to put the fear of Him in our hearts (second mention, so this is extremely important), so we will not turn away from Him. We must enter into this promise through Jesus Christ! It was established in His blood, on the cross! You were bought with a price so high we will never be able to fully comprehend it. You are not your own.

This covenant is not like the old one (Jeremiah 31:32, 2 Corinthians 3:6, Hebrews 8:8, Hebrews 12:4).

It is established through Christ’s death (Luke 22:20, 1Corinthians 11:25).

It is for Israel by faith and not works or genetics, and also for all of us who are not Jewish but become Abraham’s offspring through faith in Christ (Romans 9:6-8).

Christ took our sin on Himself on the cross, and when He was glorified, He made  the Holy Spirit available in a whole new way — the Holy Spirit does not simply “come upon” us so we can be used by God, but fully dwells “in” us when we are filled with the Holy Spirit!

If we ask our Father, He will give us the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13) and we will become united in heart and in way with our God.

This unity of heart and way is exactly what Christ prayed for in John 17:20-21! Jesus was saying, “Now, Father, I pray You fulfill what You prophesied through Jeremiah!”

It is so much more than miracles (Acts 1:5, 8), because the disciples already had been given authority by Jesus to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons.

It is the power to obey, power over sin, the power to walk as Jesus walked (Acts 4:13) — the greatest of miracles!

Will you believe it? Jesus Christ says you will either come into the light of His truth, or you will hate the light (John 3:19-21). It is time for you to come into the light, time to become united in heart and way with God.

Do not delay, for the hour is late! Agree with God that your heart and your way are not right, and He will bring you into His presence, into holy intimacy with the God the Father and God the Son, by the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

WORKING HARD

[SW160] 11/08/2014 message notes by Sister Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Working Hard”

If you obey Jesus Christ today, His promise to you is that you will catch many people, and they will no longer be under the wrath of God, but will believe and obey Jesus, and have eternal life!

LOOKING AT THE TEXT (LUKE 5:1-11):

Verse 1 – Jesus is teaching the Word of God; He is doing what He sees His Father doing (John 5:19). As a result, the people press in around Him and listen. They know God is speaking.

Verse 2 – The fishermen had finished THEIR work, which they were doing in their own power.

Verse 3 – He uses Simon’s vessel to teach from, so all can hear and see.

Verse 4 – He commands Simon to go out again into the deep water and let down the nets. He says they will have a catch. When HE commands, it will be so, even though it seems impossible!

Verse 5 – Simon says THEY worked hard all night but caught nothing.

— But He OBEYED JESUS, saying, “I will do as you say.”

Verse 6-7 – The catch is huge, the nets start to break, the other boat is called, and even then, both boats begin to sink from the weight of the catch. When HE commands, we go out in HIS power and miracles happen!

Verse 8-9  – As a result of this miracle, Simon is convicted of his own sinfulness, and falls down in worship to Jesus. Note that Simon was NOT convicted of his sinfulness prior to this point, even though Jesus had been talking with him and the others.

— When true miracles are done by God, conviction of sin and repentance are always the result. In this way, we can discern whether signs and wonders are false or truly from God.

Astonishment seizes (grabs) them all!

— They are trained fishermen, experts! But they had no catch. Suddenly, there is a huge catch!

— Training and expertise does not make for a huge catch. Apart from Him, we can do nothing:

John 15:4 “ Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit  of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he  bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Verse 10 – After this amazing miracle, Jesus amazes them further by telling them that from now on, they will be catching men!

Verse 11 – They left their work which they had been doing in their own power, and followed (BELIEVED AND OBEYED) Jesus.
Catching men! They did, with Him!

And then, He told them He was going to leave them, If they obeyed, He would give them the Holy Spirit:

John 14:15   “ If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. [the original Greek has “kai” before the next verse, which means “and”] 16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another   Helper, that He may be with you forever . . .”

Note the connection between OBEDIENCE (if you keep My commandments) which is evidence of loving Jesus Christ, and receiving God’s power to do God’s works through God’s Holy Spirit!!

And they will do even greater works, BECAUSE Jesus is going to the Father:

John 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and  greater works than these he will do; because  I go to the Father.”

What happens when Jesus goes to the Father? He is glorified, and the Holy Spirit is given:

John 7:39 But this He spoke  of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for  the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet  glorified.

That happened in Acts 2! And He is still filling those who obey Him (Acts 5:32)!

Then we go out in HIS power and do the works we see the Father doing, and catch people!

FOR THE CHURCH:

Beloved, we work very hard in our own power and our own training and expertise.

But we can only do what He has called us to do — catch people — when we obey Jesus’ commands and thereby show that we love Him. And most of the church is disobedient to the Lord.

This is disobedience — working in our own power! We disobey Jesus Christ when we rely on our own:

— skill
— knowledge
— expertise
— logic
— wisdom

We disobey Him when we:

— use demographics to ensure success (that’s like using an electronic fish finder to make sure you get a catch!!!)
— do motorcycle and dog blessings to attract people
— hold carnivals to attract people

The result of such things is that people are attracted to a ministry or a man, and there is no conviction of sin and thus, no repentance, because these are natural works, not God’s works.

And that man or that ministry receives glory, not Jesus Christ.

We will catch nothing that way!

I tell you the truth, the church is a laughing stock to the world, because she is full of sin and acts like the world.

But when we cease from our natural works and do God’s works, our detractors will be silenced:

Acts 4:13   Now as they observed the  confidence of  Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and  began to recognize them  as having been with Jesus.  14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply [my emphasis].

We must be doing miracles, signs and wonders, so conviction of sinfulness results, and repentance comes. That’s why the newborn church prayed like this:

Acts 4:29 “And  now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may  speak Your word with all  confidence,  30 while You extend Your hand to heal, and   signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy   servant Jesus.”

THEN men and women are saved from the wrath of God.

EXHORTATION:

Beloved, confess your sinfulness in disobeying Christ by working in your own power, with your own expertise and your own training.

Repent, have a change of heart!

Cease from your own labors, just as Simon and his companions did.

His promise to you, if you obey Him, is that you will catch many people, and they will no longer be under the wrath of God, but will believe and obey Jesus, and have eternal life!

THE BIBLE IS LIKE A DIAMOND

I returned home with Jeff one night, after a Bible study at our church, back in 2002. My heart overflowed with joy because we have the privilege of peering into the Word of God, to see His loveliness and to know Him more fully. The Lord had baptized me in the Holy Spirit a couple of months prior to that night.

As I sat on the couch with a cup of cocoa, a vision came to me. It was a diamond, and a hand was turning it in a light. As it turned, the outer and inner facets sparkled — light came from each facet as it was exposed to the light. Then I saw a package, wrapped many times over. Then I saw angels in heaven unfolding God’s plan like a road map, but there was no end to the unfolding, because He is infinite and so is His plan. Immediately, this song, complete with lyrics and melody, came to me:

Your Word by Susan Wynn©2002

The facets of Your Word, Father, are lovely to behold; they beckon me to know it and the truths within You’ve told.

They draw me closer, closer still, until at last I view, a true and glorious picture of the one that I love — You.

Your Word is guiding me to You, I peer into its center; with it You draw me close to You and You now let me enter the room where all the plans are set, the room where you are seated, and I realize it’s not the view but me that’s being completed.

Your Word is like a gift to me, I endlessly can open; each layer of paper lifted shows a new and deep truth spoken.

At last I see the fullness of the plan that is unfolding; the height and depth of Your great love is what I’m now beholding.

Your Word is guiding me to You, I peer into its center; with it You draw me close to You and You now let me enter the room where all the plans are set, the room where you are seated, and I realize it’s not the view but me that’s being completed.

I pray you become so hungry and thirsty that you pick up the Word of God and begin to lift its layers of paper so you may see the gift of God that it reveals. I pray you ask the Holy Spirit’s hand to turn it in the light of Jesus Christ, so glimpses of the knowledge of God appear as lights flashing from it. I pray His lights illuminate you and convict you of sin. I pray they bring you to repentance, and then draw you so close to God that you ask to be filled with the Spirit and God’s actual love, holiness, and power. Then you will be able to enter the very throne room of God,* to see His endlessly unfolding plan and to participate in His work, in Jesus’ name

*Psalm 24:3  Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
And who may stand in His holy  place?
4  He who has  clean hands and a  pure heart . . .

ENLARGED!

[SW158] 10/24/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Enlarged!”

Oh, God wants to enlarge us, so our hearts are made big enough to contain Him!

Enlarged (7337) — broadened, widened, made into a wide space!

Text: Isaiah 54:1-3

The Lord spoke this to Israel, while they were in captivity, unable to bear, desolate.
And He told them to shout for joy!!! Why? Because He was going to restore them.

He said, “Enlarge!” Make room for Me! Widen your view of Me! Enlarge your understanding of what I can do in the midst of your desolation and barrenness.

His promise? Your desolation will end!

More promises:

Verse 11-12 You are now afflicted and storm-tossed, you are not comforted (returned to Me). But I will garnish you with precious jewels, as a bride is adorned for her Bridegroom!

Verse 13 You will have sons, and they will be taught by Me, and they will have great shalom, peace, wellness, health, spiritual prosperity!

Verse 14-15 I will establish you in My righteousness, and you will no longer be oppressed by fear and terror. No one will assail you — if they try, they will fall.

Verse 16 The Lord created Nebuchadnezzar as His servant to punish Israel for her waywardness. He created all human beings, and uses some for such purposes, to cause ruin that His people would cry out and return to Him.

Verse 17 But once you have returned, no weapon formed against you will prosper, and you will condemn all who accuse you! It is your heritage, your inheritance, when you become a servant of the Lord — one who obeys out of love.

This is reason to shout for joy! God says, prepare yourself, and I will enlarge your heart so I may dwell in you, just as My Son declared in John 14:23!

Enlargement! David, a man after God’s own heart, declared it:

Psalm 119:32  I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will enlarge my heart.

Psalm 119:45  And I will walk at liberty (literally, in a wide space),
    For I  seek Your precepts.

Psalms 118:5    From my distress I called upon  the LORD;
The LORD answered me and  set me in a large place.

Psalms 18:19  He brought me forth also into a  broad place;
He rescued me, because  He delighted in me.

He delights in those whose hearts are His! He delights in those who run in the way of His commandments because He has enlarged their hearts so they can contain Him! He rescues them and sets them in broad places!

Do you see the common thread? It is a promise for those who return.

Isaiah 55:6-7

Seek (1875) — enter into relationship with — God!

It is a limited time offer — it is while He is found, while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts!

Let him turn to the Lord — He will have mercy on him, and FREELY pardon him!

You may say, “Well, that is the Old Testament. It doesn’t apply to the church.” But listen to what Paul spoke to the church at Corinth, for some of them were acting wickedly and unrighteously:

2Corinthians 6:17  “ Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,” says the Lord.
    “AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN;
    And I will welcome you.
18      “ And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be  sons and daughters to Me,”
    Says the Lord Almighty.

It is a quote from Isaiah 52:11. The condition for the promises of God is to separate yourself from wickedness and unrighteousness, in yourself and in the world.

Turn, and all of His promises in Isaiah 54 that I have spoken of will be yours!

Do what is required by God — turn —  and the promise will be fulfilled in you, and you will be filled full of God!

FIRE

The Holy Spirit and fire are inseparable. You can’t have one without the other. And it is God’s command that you be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire.

[SW154] 09/20/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Fire”

Matthew 3:11 [John the Baptist said]  “As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

A few things about the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

— Repentance must precede the baptism. Not only repentance, but the fruit thereof.

— The Holy Spirit and fire are inseparable. You can’t have one without the other.

— John the Baptist was not baptizing those who did not yet believe. He was baptizing believers in God.

— That means that those believers in God needed to repent, needed to turn to God. They were going through the motions but sinning on the side, and John’s words convicted them of their sin.

— The most religious were the ones he most strongly rebuked. Dotting i’s and crossing t’s does not make you right with God.

So why repent and be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire? I could tell you all the things that will change in you and all the things that you will become, but here’s the bottom line: God commands it. Isn’t that enough reason?

John the Baptist, and Jesus Christ, and the disciples, preached for God’s people to repent. It is the repentance that leads to life:

Acts 11:18 When they [Jews upset that Peter had gone into the home of the Gentile Cornelius] heard this, they quieted down and  glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads tolife.”

So repentance must come first. Then you live. Then you seek the baptism with the Holy Spirit and fire, because God commands it (see Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 5:17-18).

What will the Holy Spirit’s fire do?

— Refine you and purge you of all admixtures, burning off every other inferior metal so you are made pure, so your heart is completely God’s (Malachi 3:3). Again, Malachi prophesied to the people of God, even the Levites who were designated as His ministers and worshipers, not unbelievers.

His eyes move to and fro across the earth to strongly support those whose hearts are entirely His, beloved (2Chronicles 16:9)! Halleujah!

— Cleanse you (Acts 15:9). The house of Cornelius did speak in other tongues, which is evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit throughout the New Testament, but what really impressed Peter was that their hearts were cleansed. Again, purity of heart is in view.

—  Provide you with light to lead the way. He is the pillar of fire by which Israel was able to journey by night (Exodus 13:22). You will hear a voice saying, “This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right or the left.” (See Isaiah 30:21.)

— This fire will burn but not consume, so that you may be as the burning bush (Exodus 3:2), and the Lord may speak through you.

For today’s church:

We blame much of our problems on the devil. We say he’s at work, and that’s why our lives are so messed up. But that’s not what the Bible says:
James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.  15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when  sin  is accomplished, it brings forth death.  16  Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

God will deliver you from your lust when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. Listen to Peter:

2Peter 1:4  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent  promises, so that by them you may become  partakers of the divine nature, having  escaped the  corruption that is in the world by lust.

Beloved, Christianity is not a religion — it is a relationship with God that is intimate and continual. I hear “relationship” a lot in the church-at-large. What I rarely hear is that you cannot have a relationship with God if  you continue to willfully disobey God (that is, SIN).

1John 1:6  “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness [that is, sin], we lie and  do not practice the truth;”

Do not deceive yourselves, beloved. Give God full reign in you.

Turn from your willful disobedience! Turn from your sin! Jesus Christ is the only Way to God the Father. No one comes to Him except through Jesus.

Don’t just mouth the words — truly turn away from the sin you’ve been doing. Then ask Him for the Holy Spirit and fire. He’ll refine, purge, cleanse, light your path, and remove your chains so you’re no longer a slave to sin.

Believe and receive!

WATER!

[SW153] 09/16/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Water”

(NOTE: These are notes and scripture references. I urge you to watch the video on Youtube, because it is an interpretation of John 4 that I believe will speak to your heart. The video message will be available later today. The link is in the right-hand column on my blog site.)

I announced last time that I would discontinue this video ministry, to make myself available for other ministry as needed, but the Lord showed me that I can vary the days I speak a video message. So I will continue.

Breath — Last time, I spoke about the breath, a symbol of the Holy Spirit, a breath that is breathed into dry bones.

The Lord instructed me to continue with a few other symbols of the Holy Spirit:

Water — Living water which flows from the bellies of those who are filled to overflowing.

Fire — Purifies our hearts and make them completely and entirely God’s, with no other rival.

Oil — That which keeps a flame burning.

So today, I speak about water.

You are thirsty with a thirst that nothing has quenched. Your sins leave you dry, the gods you’ve worshiped leave you dry, preachers who preach ear candy leave you dry. Jesus Christ has living water for you today, and you will never thirst again.

Text:  John 4 — the condition of the woman at the well (and of you, beloved), and the solution.

The nature of living water:

Zechariah 14:8   And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

These are waters that never dry up! In Israel, rivers and streams often flow in the winter but dry up in the summer. But the living water of the Holy Spirit is an endless source of life!

Zechariah 10:1        Ask  rain from the LORD at the time of the spring rain —
The LORD who  makes the  storm clouds;
And He will give them  showers of rain, vegetation in the field to each man.

Zechariah 10:12 “And I will strengthen them in the LORD,
And in His name they will walk,” declares the LORD.

It is water that strengthens, water that transforms you so that you become God’s representative, walking in the name of Jesus Christ, as His ambassador, obeying God, walking as Christ walked when He was on the earth. The strengthening rain, the living water, the Spirit! He is what is required to make it so!

Water! The Holy Spirit, who was poured out at Pentecost, with a fisherman named Peter preaching repentance in Acts 2, for repentance is the first step:

Joel 2:12 “Yet even now,” declares the LORD,
“ Return to Me with all your heart,
And with  fasting, weeping and mourning;
13      And  rend your heart and not  your garments.”
Now return to the LORD your God,
For He is  gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness
And relenting of evil.

and then . . .

Joel 2:28  “It will come about after this
That I will  pour out My Spirit on all mankind; [all who ask, Luke 11:13]
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
29      “Even on the  male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

And the day that Peter preached, and in the days that followed, thousands upon thousands were transformed, healed of their rebellion against God, and reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ! Peter had flood-stage living water flowing from his belly!

Poured out! Water! Rivers in the spiritual desert of Judah’s exile in Babylon, and also in the desert of today’s Christianity!

Only our God, the one who called forth the generations from the beginning, can help us, and He will gladly restore and revive the fallen-away church, if she will turn. Here is His promise:

Isaiah 41:18  “I will open  rivers on the bare heights
And springs in the midst of the valleys;
I will make  the wilderness a pool of water
And the dry land fountains of water.
19      “I will put the cedar in the wilderness,
The acacia and the  myrtle and the olive tree;
I will place the  juniper in the desert
Together with the box tree and the cypress,
20      That  they may see and recognize,
And consider and gain insight as well,
That the  hand of the LORD has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.

These cannot grow in a dry desert . . . they require water! But  He promises water:

Isaiah 44:3  ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land
And streams on the dry ground;
I will  pour out My Spirit on your offspring
And My blessing on your descendants;

For today’s church:

Who is the Source of living water? Who will relieve you of the dryness that I know you feel? Who is the One who will take you out of your desert, out of your wilderness, the place of dryness that results from sin?  Jesus Christ!

What is your sin, you ask? Rather than idols made of stone or wood or metal,  the idolatry of self is your sin. (I was the same way, before I received the Holy Spirit’s living water.) And most pastors build their sermons around you and your sensual desires. That may make you feel good for a moment, but then you find you are still dry. Theirs is a deceptive stream; it dries up quickly. You are still in your idolatry. If your pastor does not speak of sin and righteousness and judgment and repentance from sin, you remain a slave to sin.

Jesus Christ is in the business of making people free from slavery to sin (John 8:31-36), and that is by the Holy Spirit, the living water:

John 7:37   Now on  the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 “He who believes in Me,  as the Scripture said, ‘From  his innermost being will flow rivers of  living water.’” 39 But this He spoke  of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Who receives the living water of the Holy Spirit? He who believes in Christ, not just in a mental assent that Christ lived and died and rose again, but who obeys Christ out of love! He who has repented and asked God to do it! That one will have living water flowing from his belly like a flood-stage river!
Jesus Christ was sent by God the Father for this reason:

Isaiah 42:7      To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the dungeon
And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.

This water, the Holy Spirit, will open your blind eyes and  deliver you from your prison of selfishness and rebellion against God, and make you an oasis for the lost (Isaiah 42:7). He who gives you sight and freedom will do the same for them, through us!

And there is another purpose for His living water:

Acts 1:8 “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be  My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and  Samaria, and even to  the remotest part of the earth.”

The living water of the Holy Spirit gives you power to be a witness that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God, that He came and died and rose again, because His Holy Spirit will fill you with His presence and His love and His holiness and His power, and that will trigger repentance in others!

You cannot be the church without His living water!

The cure for your dryness, the exit from your desert, is before you now. Jesus Christ will give you living, overflowing water that will never dry up, living water that will make you a witness that Christ is real. People who see God’s power in you and living water flowing form you will repent and believe.

Beloved, most of today’s church cannot claim to be witnesses of Him, but His offer is open NOW. Repent, turn from your idolatry of self, cry out to God and receive His living water!
