STORMS

“Storms”

Storms (troubles) come to all of us. You want your storm to be stilled, but you must first understand the cause of the storm. Then you will know how to cry out to your Father in heaven, and He will rescue you!

Please know that Jesus Christ has rescued me out of each of the storms described in Psalm 107.

So why do storms come into your life?

The Holy Spirit tells us, through the psalmist —

vv. 4-9

Cause: Unbelief/lack of trust in God, referring to Numbers 13:31-33, when all but two spies said Israel was not strong enough to defeat the giants in the land.

Result: Desert wandering/humbling

The cry to the Lord: Help my unbelief, change my heart! A broken and contrite, crushed and crouching heart, He will not despise (Psalm 51:17).
The Lord’s response: Deliverance!

Your response: Thank Him for His lovingkindness and His wonders, on your behalf! Continually. Forever.

Don’t do as I did, when the Lord delivered me from drug addiction. I just woke up in my right mind, and went on my merry way without a thought of Him! Thank You, Jesus, for forgiving me, Lord, when I turned to You many years later!
vv. 10-15

Cause: Rejecting God’s wisdom/Word

Result: Chains, labor, darkness, shadow of death

The cry to the Lord: Forgive me, Lord! Change my heart!

The Lord’s response: He brings you out!

Your response: Thank Him for His lovingkindness and His wonders, on your behalf! Continually. Forever.

Well, that’s what happened because I didn’t turn to God after He healed me of drug addiction. I went on, unchanged, not wanting to hear His name mentioned in conversation. But a time came when I found myself in chains and in the shadow of death, and I no longer rejected His wisdom and His Word.

vv. 17-22

Cause: Rebellion/sin

Result: Sickness, just as when I was stricken with MS, an incurable disease!

The cry to the Lord: Forgive me, Lord, Change my heart! Heal me!

The Lord’s response: He sends His Word and heals you, and delivers you from the pit!

NOTE: Example in Isaiah 38: 21 — the poultice of figs to heal King Hezekiah’s boil! For me, “You’re sinking in a sea of doubt.”

Your response: Thank Him for His lovingkindness and His wonders, on your behalf! Continually. Forever. Yes, Lord, yes. Now I do!
vv. 23-31

Cause: A test of faith that has nothing to do with rebellion, sin, unbelief, or rejection of God’s Word and counsel.

The Lord Himself raised up a strong wind.

Result: All their wisdom was swallowed up.

The cry to the Lord: Don’t You care that we are perishing? (Mark 4:38)
Save us, Lord! (Matthew 8:25)

Now the Lord wants to fill you with His Spirit (which had not yet happened to His disciples in this passage), so you won’t cry, “Don’t You care?” You know He does; you just ask what He wants you to do. If it’s just “sit tight,” then you do it. You trust Him to bring you through.

The Lord’s response: He calms the winds and sea.

Your response: Thank Him for His lovingkindness and His wonders, on your behalf! Continually. Forever.

vv. 39-42 Princes (those who do not think they need to cry out) end up in misery, chains, captivity. But He sets the needy (who know they need to cry out) in an inaccessibly high place (seated with Him in heavenly places, per Ephesians 2:6)!
Glory to God!

v. 43 Consider, give heed!

SEEKING HIS HAND

[SW175] 02/27/2015 message notes by
Evangelist Susan J. Wynn ©2015

“Seeking His Hand”

When someone is in chains, they are totally bound — legs, arms, neck.

But there’s one chain that has a lock on it, and when it’s unlocked, the prisoner is set free from those chains.

I tell you, Jesus wants to set some prisoners free today, and there’s a particular chain the Lord wants to break so all the rest fall to the ground!

Text: Psalm 78:12-33, 40-43

Israel longed for the things of Egypt (Numbers 11:1-6).

They forgot the oppression and the hard master they served there.

They forgot what the Lord had done for them:
— The plagues He set upon Egypt that resulted in their freedom, and
especially, the night the firstborn of Egypt were killed, but Israel’s
firstborn did not die. Death passed over them.
— Deliverance at the Red Sea
— The manna, bread from heaven
— Water from a rock, enough for a million of them
— The pillar cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, to lead and protect them
— The promise of the Promised Land

How could they forget? Or more importantly, why did they forget?

Numbers 11:33-34

Greediness!

They sought His hand and not His face (His presence).

Hey, Lord, I’m hungry. Feed me. But it has to be the kind I desire.

What is this? Manna? You expect me to eat this stuff?

I want meat, like I had in Egypt. I never should have left.

As Richard “Stonefingers” Johnson wrote in a song, “I Want To Go Back:”

I want to go back to Egypt.

That pillar of fire’s light keeps me awake all night.

I want to go back the slavery I once knew, something I can hold on to.

This desert is hot, a picnic it is not, I miss the cool Nile breezes and the shade.

This promised land’s a dream, that I have never seen.

Who does God think He is, to make me live like this, out here with all these scorpions and snakes?

If I was in charge, I’d stop this forward march, and hustle my way straight back to Egypt.

Israel didn’t trust God. They demanded from Him, saying “Fulfill our own desires (Psalm 78:18, Numbers 11:8-20).

Even today, there are pastors who encourage people to complain to God, demand what they want from Him, to seek His hand, to ask for material blessings continually.

But these pastors do not tell them that their hearts are selfish and that, by demanding that God fulfill their desires, they are rejecting what He has already supplied, and rejecting God Himself!

These false teachers feed on greed — the greed of the people who want their ear-tickling message. It even works in underdeveloped countries, which amazed me.

But fallen human hearts are the same everywhere — greedy, selfish, and desperately in need of transformation by God’s Holy Spirit!

May the Lord bring upon them something that will make the ears of all who hear tingle (vibrate, quiver with fear) not tickle (see 1Samuel 3:11, 2Kings 21:12, Jeremiah 19:3).

What is the cure for greed?

2Peter 1:4  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent  promises, so that by them you may become  partakers of the divine nature, having  escaped the  corruption that is in  the world by lust.

Hallelujah! By what has He granted that we become partakers of His nature and escape the corruption and lust of this world?

2Peter 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied to you in  the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

Knowledge — full knowledge, the knower having an experiential relationship with the One whom he knows. He knows God because he has experienced God, by being filled with the Holy Spirit!

Matthew 6:19   “ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 “But store up for yourselves  treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal . . .”

Matthew 6:33 “But  seek first  His kingdom and His righteousness, and  all these things will be  added to you.”

Nowhere in the gospels does Jesus say, “Demand what you want from God. He’s here to meet your lusts and desires.”

Romans 5:5 and hope  does not disappoint, because the love of God has been  poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

The Holy Spirit! Father God gives you a new heart when you are filled with the Holy Spirit! He is the One who makes you a partaker of the divine nature. It must be done in you in the same way it was done in Peter in the upper room in Acts 2!

— Father God’s love, the very same love with which He loves His Son! In you, filling your heart!

— Knowing Father God deeply and experientially and intimately because He is in you!

There is no other way to know Him but through Jesus Christ, His Son (John 14:6).

And there is no way to receive unless you are willing to offer yourself as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing, for that is your spiritual act of worship (see Romans 12:1). The sacrifice in view here is a whole burnt offering. But you get to live after sin has been burned out of you, after the Refiner has come and purified!

Then you will no longer have greed in your heart, even greed toward God, wanting Him to give, give, give you what you lust for. You will always approach God with your needs, humbly and contritely, but with confidence.

No greed — once that chain is broken, the rest fall to the ground!

As Charles Wesley wrote:

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray-
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Is that chains that I hear falling, in the name of Jesus?

There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain!

GREATER THINGS

[SW174] 02/20/2015 message notes by
Evangelist Susan J. Wynn ©2015

“Greater Things”

What did Jesus mean when He said those who believe in Him would do greater things? You’ll be amazed to find out!

John 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and  greater works than these he will do; because  I go to the Father.”

The keys here are “GREATER works he will DO” and  “BECAUSE I go to the Father.”

What possible greater thing (the word “works”  isn’t in the original Greek) could you do that Jesus did not do while He was on the earth?

What possible greater thing could be done by you BECAUSE He went to the Father?

What hadn’t Jesus Himself done while He was on the earth, but was something you as a believer would be empowered to do when He went to the Father?

We know that when Jesus went to the Father, He was glorified and poured out the Holy Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given. (John 7:37-39). It was a new way of having the Spirit — He was to be you permanently, not just with you or upon you or “in” you for a specific task until it was done, like Bezalel (Exodus 31:2-3).

In that upper room in Acts 2, the 120 experienced a personal Pentecost. They were filled with God the Holy Spirit.

In order to  understand the greater they would do, you must understand what GOD worked in those who experienced a personal Pentecost that day. It is what empowered them to do the greater thing promised by Jesus.

The Holy Spirit purified their hearts (Acts 15:9), so those who were filled no longer had divided affections. God no longer had any rivals in their hearts.

Jesus prayed for the Father to put His love in them AND Him in them (John 17:26), so they would be filled Jesus Himself and with God’s actual love and love with God’s love — the same love the Father has for the Son. And that happened to those 120 in that upper room, when they experienced a personal Pentecost.

Jesus promised that because they were truly His disciples, they would continue in His word and know the truth by experiencing it, and the truth would set them free from slavery to sin (John 8:31-36). And that happened to those 120 in that upper room, when they experienced a personal Pentecost.

He promised that they would become partakers of His divine nature (2Peter 1:4), having His character literally residing in them. And that happened to those 120 in that upper room, when they experienced a personal Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit worked such a change in those who were filled, that they became Jesus Christ’s witnesses here, even to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8)!

So, with all of that in mind, what is it that the disciples were empowered to do, and what is it that you and I are empowered to do, when we experience a personal Pentecost?

John 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and  greater works than these he will do; because  I go to the Father.”

He said it would be a greater thing that we would DO, a “God thing” that we would do, one that God in the flesh did not do while He walked the earth. And it was BECAUSE He went to the Father that we would be empowered to do this greater thing.

There is only one thing that Jesus did not do while He walked the earth that we are now able to do BECAUSE He went to the Father.

It is a greater thing than healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers, casting out demons, making the blind see and the deaf hear and the lame walk, which He and His disciples did when Jesus walked the earth.

The only thing Jesus did not do while He walked the earth, but we are now able to do, is described in Acts 8:17, 9:17 and Acts 19:1-7 —

Acts 8:17 Then they  began laying their hands on them, and they were  receiving the Holy Spirit.

Acts 9:17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after  laying his hands on him said, “ Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be  filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 19:1   It happened that while  Apollos was at  Corinth, Paul passed through the  upper country and came to  Ephesus, and found some disciples.  2 He said to them, “ Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No,  we have not even heard whether  there is a Holy Spirit.”  3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “ Into John’s baptism.”  4 Paul said, “ John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people  to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”  5 When they heard this, they were  baptized  in the name of the Lord Jesus.  6 And when Paul had  laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began  speaking with tongues and  prophesying.  7 There were in all about twelve men.

Beloved, when you experience a personal Pentecost and your heart is purified, God’s actual love fills your heart, and you are no longer a slave to sin, and you are a partaker of the divine nature, the greater thing you are empowered to do, the one thing Jesus did not do while He was on the earth, is to baptize others in the Holy Spirit.

Those three scriptures show you that baptism in the Holy Spirit happens when you lay hands on a fellow believer. BUT It may also happen while you are speaking the gospel of Jesus Christ —

Acts 10:44   While Peter was still speaking these words,  the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the  message.

When you experience a personal Pentecost and are filled with and baptized in the Holy Spirit, you are empowered to lay hands on others or even to speak the gospel with such power that they, too, are baptized in the Holy Spirit and filled to overflowing!

Why? So their hearts are purified just like yours, no longer having divided affections.

Why? So His love is in them, just like it is in yours, just like Jesus prayed to the Father.

Why? So they, too, are no longer slaves to sin, just as He promised in John 8:31-36.

Why? So they, too, become partakers of the divine nature

Why? So they, too can be Jesus Christ’s witnesses, even to the ends of the earth.

Why? So they, too, can lay hands on others so they are filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit!

Jesus did not baptize people in the Holy Spirit while He was on the earth because it was not yet time.

AFTER He went to the Father and was glorified, it was time! Pentecost happened! And it is still happening today, in individual believers, beloved.

It’s what Paul was praying in Ephesians 3:14-19.

It’s the point to which apostles and prophets and evangelists and pastors and teachers seek to bring every Christian. It is God’s plan for building the church —

Ephesians 4:13 . . . until we all attain to  the unity of the faith, and of the   knowledge of the Son of God, to a  mature man, to the measure of the stature  which belongs to the  fullness of Christ.

Beloved, as Jeff once prophesied, God does not want a full church; He wants a filled church. God does not want a full church building. He wants believers who are filled!

Have you experienced a personal Pentecost? Is your heart pure? Are you filled with the same love God has for His Son? Are you no longer a slave to sin?

You must love and obey Jesus before the Holy Spirit will come and fill you to the full (Acts 5:32).

Are you still struggling with sin, Christian, pastor, church leader?

Then confess your sin, ask Jesus to forgive you! Repent!

Then ask, seek, knock, and He will purify your heart, fill it with His love, free you from slavery to sin, and give you His divine nature!

And you will be able to do something greater than what Jesus did when He walked the earth! It will be for His purpose. And you will become one of His ambassadors here, just as the Apostles and all of the church from that Acts 2 Pentecost, and for all time until Jesus returns!

Beloved, Jesus didn’t die and rise again so you could receive whatever blessings you demand from the Father’s hand.

He died and rose again so you would have a pure heart, one that obeys because it is filled with the very same love that the Father has for the Son, and so that you would be a vessel through which He would baptize many in the Spirit, to be His witnesses everywhere!

MAKING MUCH OF LITTLE

[SW165] 12/19/2014 message notes by Sister Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Making Much of Little”

In Christ, God makes much out of our littleness, by putting His much IN us!

Text: Matthew 14:13-21

v. 13  If you hear Jesus and see what He has done, you will seek and follow Him.

v. 14  He has drawn billions to Himself since He walked the earth, died, rose (He is alive!!!), ascended, was glorified, and poured out His Spirit.

His response to those who seek Him? Compassion and healing.

v. 15 Jesus is teaching in this late hour, even today. The Bread of Life (John 6:35) is feeding you the truth of the Word of God.

Don’t look at things in the natural, as the disciples did. They thought Jesus needed to send them away for food.

But He is THE endless resource of all you need.

v. 16-17 Jesus says, “They don’t need to go away. You feed them!” He always challenges our perspective, and I thank God that He does.

He wants us all to see things His way —  the way that says, “All things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23).

But His command (You feed them!) is also prophetic, for when we are full of Christ by the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to spiritually feed people.

v. 17 The disciples continued in the natural — How can they feed the people? There are only five loaves and two fish for thousands.

v. 18 He says to you today, “Bring your little to Me.” We are small and very much in need of God to do a great miracle in our hearts.

v. 19 When we turn away from sin and to Jesus Christ, He makes much out of us:

At salvation:

From child of wrath to child of God (Ephesians 2:3)

From sinner to saint (“set apart” one) (Ephesians 1:1)

From rebel to a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation
(1Peter 2:9)

From dweller in darkness to walker in His light (John 3:21, 1Peter 2:9)

When we ask our Father to fill us with His Spirit (Luke 11:13):

From empty to full (Ephesians 3:19, 5:18)

From broken to whole (Luke 4:18, Isaiah 61:1-2)

From corrupt nature to divine nature (2Peter 1:4) — His character enters us who are of the same lineal descent (genealogy), through faith in Christ!

From lovers of the world to lovers of God (John 15:19)

From impure hearts to pure hearts, wholly devoted to God
(1Timothy 1:5, 2Ti 2:22)

From fearing man to fearing God (Matthew 10:28, 2Corinthians 7:1)

From living in sin to “dead to sin” (1Corinthians 6:2, 1Peter 2:24)

v. 20  If you hear Him today, He will sup with you and you with Him, and you will eat and be satisfied.

You who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled with His Spirit. (Revelation 3:20, Matthew 5:6).

Of what He gives you, there will be some left over, because He is the Giver of more than enough.

His life will be in you, even to overflowing (John 10:10), and the Enemy’s plan to steal, kill and destroy will fail. And you will be able to lay hands on others that they, too, may be filled (Acts 19:5-6).

This is God’s gift to you, through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

It is so that people may know that He sent Jesus Christ.

And it is so they will know that if they seek Him and bring their little to Him, He will make much out of them, too, by putting His much in them.

He gives you this Gift even today, though you have nothing to offer Him but your sin.

I pray you will see your littleness as I did, and ask the Lord to make you into much.

THE BIBLE IS LIKE A DIAMOND

I returned home with Jeff one night, after a Bible study at our church, back in 2002. My heart overflowed with joy because we have the privilege of peering into the Word of God, to see His loveliness and to know Him more fully. The Lord had baptized me in the Holy Spirit a couple of months prior to that night.

As I sat on the couch with a cup of cocoa, a vision came to me. It was a diamond, and a hand was turning it in a light. As it turned, the outer and inner facets sparkled — light came from each facet as it was exposed to the light. Then I saw a package, wrapped many times over. Then I saw angels in heaven unfolding God’s plan like a road map, but there was no end to the unfolding, because He is infinite and so is His plan. Immediately, this song, complete with lyrics and melody, came to me:

Your Word by Susan Wynn©2002

The facets of Your Word, Father, are lovely to behold; they beckon me to know it and the truths within You’ve told.

They draw me closer, closer still, until at last I view, a true and glorious picture of the one that I love — You.

Your Word is guiding me to You, I peer into its center; with it You draw me close to You and You now let me enter the room where all the plans are set, the room where you are seated, and I realize it’s not the view but me that’s being completed.

Your Word is like a gift to me, I endlessly can open; each layer of paper lifted shows a new and deep truth spoken.

At last I see the fullness of the plan that is unfolding; the height and depth of Your great love is what I’m now beholding.

Your Word is guiding me to You, I peer into its center; with it You draw me close to You and You now let me enter the room where all the plans are set, the room where you are seated, and I realize it’s not the view but me that’s being completed.

I pray you become so hungry and thirsty that you pick up the Word of God and begin to lift its layers of paper so you may see the gift of God that it reveals. I pray you ask the Holy Spirit’s hand to turn it in the light of Jesus Christ, so glimpses of the knowledge of God appear as lights flashing from it. I pray His lights illuminate you and convict you of sin. I pray they bring you to repentance, and then draw you so close to God that you ask to be filled with the Spirit and God’s actual love, holiness, and power. Then you will be able to enter the very throne room of God,* to see His endlessly unfolding plan and to participate in His work, in Jesus’ name

*Psalm 24:3  Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
And who may stand in His holy  place?
4  He who has  clean hands and a  pure heart . . .

WHAT SATAN CANNOT DO

[SW156] 10/10/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“What Satan Cannot Do”

Satan cannot make you sin. All of mankind, even Christians whose hearts have not been purified by being baptized in the Holy Spirit, have lust in their hearts. Satan then tempts such ones, and they sin.

All I am about to say is the gospel (truth) which is in Christ!

For those who believe, obey, and thus show that they love God, here is the promise of God:

Hebrews 2:14   Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He [Christ] Himself likewise also partook of the same, that  through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,  15 and might free those who through  fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

Think about it! Satan is rendered powerless over death because Jesus Christ died! If you receive what Christ did on the cross and obey and love God wholeheartedly, Satan loses his favorite weapon — he no longer can make you fear death! It has no victory, no sting (1Corinthians 15:55)!

Jesus says:

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they  may have life, and  have it abundantly.”

Satan comes to:

— steal (the Word of God from hearts — Matthew 13:19)

— kill (your body)

— destroy (cause you to endlessly perish in hell)

But if you turn away from sin and to Jesus Christ, and love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, you will have Jesus Christ’s life in you — abundantly, to the full, ’til it overflows, forever!

Yet, there are things Satan CAN do:

— Tempt Christians — he temped Christ (Matthew 4:1-10)!

— Devour Christians who do not resist him.

1Peter 5:8  Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring  lion, seeking someone to devour.  9  But resist him,  firm in your faith, knowing that  the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your  brethren who are in the world.

— Fill the hearts of those who pretend obedience to Christ (Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:3)

— Afflict the righteous, with God’s permission (as with Job).

— Have dominion over all who have not yet come to Father God through Jesus Christ. As Paul testifies to King Agrippa about his Damascus Road experience, the Lord said to Paul:

Acts 26:16 ‘But get up and  stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and  a witness not only to the things which you have  seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17  rescuing you  from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of  Satan to God, that they may receive  forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’

— Possess those who have not been filled with the Holy Spirit (the demoniac of the Gadarenes in Matthew 8:28, the daughter of Abraham bent over double in Luke 13:11).

But Satan cannot:

— Make you sin (James 1:13-15)! The devil does not make you do it. Your own lust makes you sin. Beloved, James is writing to Christians.

— Jesus makes no mention of Satan in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5 – 7), which He speaks to His followers and to all of Israel. But He makes much mention of sin, hell, pride and lust, and He speaks this to His disciples and the people of Israel who are the people of God!

How can we be set free from our lust and pride that causes us to sin?

2Peter 1:3 . . . seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true  knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  4  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent  promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Becoming partakers of the divine nature means being baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire! Your sinful nature dies, and then Christ lives in you!

First, you submit to God. Then, you have the power to resist the devil, and he must flee (James 4:8)!

Here is the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only are past sins forgiven, but:

John 8:31   So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly  disciples of Mine; 32 and  you will know the truth, and  the truth will make you free.”

33 They answered Him, “ We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

John 8:34   Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you,  everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 “ The slave does not remain in the house forever;  the son does remain forever. 36 “So if the Son  makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

You will still be tempted by Satan, but you will no longer take his bait!

Why do we not live this, even now? There are two possible reasons:

— We do not believe it. Put away your unbelief, surrender fully to God, ask Jesus to baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and you will be free!

— We love our sin. Repent! Sin is always destructive not only to you, but to those around you (Isaiah 59:7)! The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)! And as if that was not sufficient reason to run full-speed to Jesus Christ to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and set free from slavery to sin.

Beloved, Satan will always tempt, but when you are submitted to God by being filled with the Spirit, you will resist the devil, and he will flee!

WATER!

[SW153] 09/16/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Water”

(NOTE: These are notes and scripture references. I urge you to watch the video on Youtube, because it is an interpretation of John 4 that I believe will speak to your heart. The video message will be available later today. The link is in the right-hand column on my blog site.)

I announced last time that I would discontinue this video ministry, to make myself available for other ministry as needed, but the Lord showed me that I can vary the days I speak a video message. So I will continue.

Breath — Last time, I spoke about the breath, a symbol of the Holy Spirit, a breath that is breathed into dry bones.

The Lord instructed me to continue with a few other symbols of the Holy Spirit:

Water — Living water which flows from the bellies of those who are filled to overflowing.

Fire — Purifies our hearts and make them completely and entirely God’s, with no other rival.

Oil — That which keeps a flame burning.

So today, I speak about water.

You are thirsty with a thirst that nothing has quenched. Your sins leave you dry, the gods you’ve worshiped leave you dry, preachers who preach ear candy leave you dry. Jesus Christ has living water for you today, and you will never thirst again.

Text:  John 4 — the condition of the woman at the well (and of you, beloved), and the solution.

The nature of living water:

Zechariah 14:8   And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

These are waters that never dry up! In Israel, rivers and streams often flow in the winter but dry up in the summer. But the living water of the Holy Spirit is an endless source of life!

Zechariah 10:1        Ask  rain from the LORD at the time of the spring rain —
The LORD who  makes the  storm clouds;
And He will give them  showers of rain, vegetation in the field to each man.

Zechariah 10:12 “And I will strengthen them in the LORD,
And in His name they will walk,” declares the LORD.

It is water that strengthens, water that transforms you so that you become God’s representative, walking in the name of Jesus Christ, as His ambassador, obeying God, walking as Christ walked when He was on the earth. The strengthening rain, the living water, the Spirit! He is what is required to make it so!

Water! The Holy Spirit, who was poured out at Pentecost, with a fisherman named Peter preaching repentance in Acts 2, for repentance is the first step:

Joel 2:12 “Yet even now,” declares the LORD,
“ Return to Me with all your heart,
And with  fasting, weeping and mourning;
13      And  rend your heart and not  your garments.”
Now return to the LORD your God,
For He is  gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness
And relenting of evil.

and then . . .

Joel 2:28  “It will come about after this
That I will  pour out My Spirit on all mankind; [all who ask, Luke 11:13]
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
29      “Even on the  male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

And the day that Peter preached, and in the days that followed, thousands upon thousands were transformed, healed of their rebellion against God, and reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ! Peter had flood-stage living water flowing from his belly!

Poured out! Water! Rivers in the spiritual desert of Judah’s exile in Babylon, and also in the desert of today’s Christianity!

Only our God, the one who called forth the generations from the beginning, can help us, and He will gladly restore and revive the fallen-away church, if she will turn. Here is His promise:

Isaiah 41:18  “I will open  rivers on the bare heights
And springs in the midst of the valleys;
I will make  the wilderness a pool of water
And the dry land fountains of water.
19      “I will put the cedar in the wilderness,
The acacia and the  myrtle and the olive tree;
I will place the  juniper in the desert
Together with the box tree and the cypress,
20      That  they may see and recognize,
And consider and gain insight as well,
That the  hand of the LORD has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.

These cannot grow in a dry desert . . . they require water! But  He promises water:

Isaiah 44:3  ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land
And streams on the dry ground;
I will  pour out My Spirit on your offspring
And My blessing on your descendants;

For today’s church:

Who is the Source of living water? Who will relieve you of the dryness that I know you feel? Who is the One who will take you out of your desert, out of your wilderness, the place of dryness that results from sin?  Jesus Christ!

What is your sin, you ask? Rather than idols made of stone or wood or metal,  the idolatry of self is your sin. (I was the same way, before I received the Holy Spirit’s living water.) And most pastors build their sermons around you and your sensual desires. That may make you feel good for a moment, but then you find you are still dry. Theirs is a deceptive stream; it dries up quickly. You are still in your idolatry. If your pastor does not speak of sin and righteousness and judgment and repentance from sin, you remain a slave to sin.

Jesus Christ is in the business of making people free from slavery to sin (John 8:31-36), and that is by the Holy Spirit, the living water:

John 7:37   Now on  the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 “He who believes in Me,  as the Scripture said, ‘From  his innermost being will flow rivers of  living water.’” 39 But this He spoke  of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Who receives the living water of the Holy Spirit? He who believes in Christ, not just in a mental assent that Christ lived and died and rose again, but who obeys Christ out of love! He who has repented and asked God to do it! That one will have living water flowing from his belly like a flood-stage river!
Jesus Christ was sent by God the Father for this reason:

Isaiah 42:7      To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the dungeon
And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.

This water, the Holy Spirit, will open your blind eyes and  deliver you from your prison of selfishness and rebellion against God, and make you an oasis for the lost (Isaiah 42:7). He who gives you sight and freedom will do the same for them, through us!

And there is another purpose for His living water:

Acts 1:8 “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be  My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and  Samaria, and even to  the remotest part of the earth.”

The living water of the Holy Spirit gives you power to be a witness that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God, that He came and died and rose again, because His Holy Spirit will fill you with His presence and His love and His holiness and His power, and that will trigger repentance in others!

You cannot be the church without His living water!

The cure for your dryness, the exit from your desert, is before you now. Jesus Christ will give you living, overflowing water that will never dry up, living water that will make you a witness that Christ is real. People who see God’s power in you and living water flowing form you will repent and believe.

Beloved, most of today’s church cannot claim to be witnesses of Him, but His offer is open NOW. Repent, turn from your idolatry of self, cry out to God and receive His living water!
