MARK 13 COMMENTARY

This is a commentary for you and me. It isn’t complicated, because Jesus wants you to understand it, so you can be healed physically and even more importantly, in your relationship with God, which was broken by sin.

Chapter 13 reflects Jesus Christ’s love for those who are His. He briefs His disciples, and you, about future events that will climax with His return to gather you and me. His instructions, as you see these things unfold? Be ready, take heed, keep on the alert!
Verses 1-2 — Throughout Jesus Christ’s ministry on the earth, He taught in the Temple, surrounded by many disciples besides the Twelve. On this occasion, one comments on the beauty and majesty of the Temple. Jesus says not one stone would be left upon another. Everything will be in ruins. Indeed, this was fulfilled in 70 AD, when Roman soldiers destroyed the Temple.

Why? The Jewish leaders rejected their Messiah, their Christ. God the Father’s will is that our bodies become His temples, and that He and His Son dwell in us, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit (John 14:23). Temple worship is no longer needed, since men and women become His temples. Think of it! God in you, so where you go, He goes. Where you walk, He WORKS!

For those who rejected their Christ the punishment was that the Temple building which they worshiped like an idol or a talisman, would be destroyed.

IMPORTANT POINT: Once you have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, ask Him to make your body His temple by filling you with His Spirit. He will do it! His will is fulfilled when you are filled full!

Verses 3-13 — Now four disciples question Jesus privately. When will the Temple be destroyed? What will be the sign that it is going to happen?

Jesus says this:

— Many will come in His name and say they are the Christ or are of Him, to try to seduce you, to draw you away, to cause you to wander from Him. They will say they are Him, or His representatives, but they will not live as He lived when He was on the earth, nor will they teach what He taught. They will speak ear-tickling words (2Timothy 4:3), for their own financial gain. It is happening even today.

— There will be wars and rumors of wars, but that is still not the end. There will be a ramping-up of unrest and war in the world, earthquakes at an ever-increasing rate, and famines. These are only the beginning of birth pangs, though. Like birth pangs, they will continue to increase in frequency and intensity.

— Be on your guard. Behold, beware, take heed! Christians will be arrested, taken to court, flogged, and stand before governors and kings, as a testimony to the governors and kings. What will be the testimony, when you stand before governors and kings? The testimony is this — the Holy Spirit will speak through you, as you stand before your accusers. And they will know it is Jesus speaking through you (Acts 4:13).

Already, across the earth, many Christians are murdered and martyred because they refused to renounce Christ — more in the 20th and 21st centuries than in all centuries from the time Jesus was crucified. You can find out more by going to persecution.com, the web site for Voice of the Martyrs. Remember the Coptic Christians who were lined up on the beach by ISIS and beheaded because they refused to renounce Jesus? It will become like that everywhere, and worse.

Family ties will mean nothing. Many will (and now do) expose Christian family members so they are arrested or simply killed on the spot.

In Verse 10, the Lord specifies that the gospel must first be preached to all nations. That is nearly accomplished by today’s missionaries, but I believe He also refers to Revelation 14:7, when the angel flies in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tongue and people.

IMPORTANT POINT: Jesus gives people the opportunity to come to Him until the very last moment of time. He so desires that all be saved, but He knows some will reject, even then.

— You will be hated by ALL because of the name of Jesus Christ. He promises it in John 15:18 and forward, and tells us that it is because you are not of the world system; you simply live in the world. Hatred for true Christians will continue to intensify greatly, even among family members.

And so Jesus says, “Endure! Remain! Stand fast! Persevere! Have courage amidst pain and adversity! If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will have His courage in you. That is Who you need in these last days. Then you will be saved. But aren’t you already saved? Yes, but there is a greater salvation, a time when Jesus will gather His true church. The whole world will see it, when He gathers you (Mark 13:26, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Verses 14-23 — Jesus tells us what will happen just before He returns:

— There will be an abomination of desolation in the Temple. Wasn’t the Temple destroyed in 70 AD? Doesn’t the Muslim Dome of the Rock stand in its place, or near its original footprint? Yes, but Israel is planning a Third Temple. Go to http://templeinstitute.org to learn more.

— To that Temple will come a great abomination — a total sacrilege. At that time, everyone who heeds Christ’s words is to flee, and not take time to gather up any belongings. The references to pregnant women and young mothers, and winter, may indicate that it will be when we least expect it, and perhaps in the hardest season of the year to be without shelter.

—In those days, when the abomination of desolation is in the Third Temple, a tribulation will occur which has never been seen before and which will never be seen again. Great pressure, great affliction, great persecution, great trouble is coming to the church. It will be so difficult, that the time of it will be shortened, so those who are His followers are able to stand it.

— And at that time, false priests and prophets will be more prevalent than ever, performing false signs and wonders. Again, He says that those who are chosen by Him at that time must not believe anyone who says they are the Christ. Those who are chosen by Him at that time will know when He comes.

— He says, take heed, beware, pay attention. He has told you EVERYTHING in advance. He has not left out any detail that you need to know. He has told you in advance because He is God the Son, deity, and sees all that was, is, and ever will be. He was like that even when He dwelled on the earth.

IMPORTANT POINT: Preachers often “humanize” Jesus. He is confused, He is afraid. He is unsure. It is utter nonsense, an attempt to mold Jesus into our image so we are more comfortable with Him or so we can “identify” with Him. Do not listen to such preachers, but run from them.

Verses 24-27 — Then, after the tribulation he speaks about in verse 19, the signs of the end will happen, and the Son of Man (one of the names of Jesus Christ) will come in the clouds with great power and glory. It will be a powerful and glory-filled sight, and everyone will see. Then comes the gathering of His church from across the earth — from the farthest away to the nearest.

There is some difference of interpretation on when the church goes up, and some believe that the church goes up, then another group called “the elect,” perhaps the 144,000 from the Book of Revelation. But the main point is to be ready, be on the alert!

Verses 28-32 — You can tell when a fig tree is about to bear fruit (not the day or the hour, but the season of summer). In the same way, you will know that He is coming soon (not the day or the hour, but the season), when you see what He has described in the previous verses. You will know that He is near, right at the door.

Then He says something that sounds strange. The disciples had asked when this would happen. Jesus said this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. If “generation” means what you and I think it means, it would appear that Jesus was wrong. But the Greek for “generation” means age, generation, or time. So this age will not pass away until these things happen. This age is called the church age, when the church is active in the world. When we are raptured (1Corinthians 15:51-53, 1Thessalonians 4:13-18), that age will end.

Please note that “church” is defined as all believers in Jesus Christ, be they Jewish or non-Jewish (Gentile).

At that time, heaven and earth will pass away; they will be replaced with a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21:1ff), in which God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and the church will spend eternity with God.

Verses 33-37 — Look! Jesus speaks “take heed” and “keep on the alert” four times in this section! How important is it that you know Jesus Christ and are reconciled to the Father, and are found doing what their Master commanded them to do (Matthew 24:45-46). He has placed you in charge. You are part of an occupying army, until He returns. Don’t be sleeping when He returns. Be ready! Occupy! Be an ambassador (2Corinthians 5:18-20)!

GOD’S GREAT PROVISION

Evangelist Susan J. Wynn ©2015

“God’s Great Provision”

Text: Genesis 22

A foreshadowing of God’s great, amazing provision — His one and only Son, Jesus Christ!

What better time to contemplate such a thing! It is GOOD Friday, the church’s observance of His crucifixion. Why is it GOOD? Because of what happened three days later! He rose! Hallelujah!

Exegesis of Genesis 22 —

vv. 1-2  The Lord calls Abraham responds immediately. He hears God’s voice and says, “Here I am.” So should it be for all of us!

The Lord gave the command for Abraham to do what seems out of character with God, for it was never in His mind to have children burned as a sacrificial offering to Him (Jeremiah 7:31, 32:35). Only those who worshiped other Gods did such things!

So why did He ask?

He gave this command so Abraham would act out prophecy. Hebrews 11:17-19 reveals the mind of God and of Abraham, as he offered his one and only son, the one who was to continue the promise that Abraham’s descendants would bless the earth (see v. 18). Abraham believed that, even if Isaac was sacrificed, God would raise him from the dead. The Lord’s request and Abraham’s response was a type, a symbol of something.

Go to the land of Moriah, which means, “seen of God.”

And there, offer your son, your one and only Son, whom you love1 God recognizes Isaac as the only seed of Abraham, the one through whose descendants the world will be blessed.

Where have we heard that? John 1:14! John 3:16! For God to make this extreme sacrifice, our need must be great, beloved!

Do you already see the parallel to God the Father offering God the Son — His one and only eternally existent, sinless Son?

vv. 3-4 Abraham made preparations, and began the journey to the place the Lord had shown him when the Lord spoke to him. He saw it in the distance, on the third day.

v. 5-6 Now Abraham and the lad (adolescent, teen) went to worship, leaving his two servants behind. Abraham told his servants that both of them would return. See Abraham’s confidence in God! Note: Isaac carried the wood on his back — he was not a little child, but an adolescent, old enough to carry a large load of wood.

Do you see that Jesus Christ also carried a large load of wood on His back, even His cross?

v. 7-8 “My father!” Isaac asked about the lamb for the sacrifice. There was none. What would they offer?

Abraham didn’t say, “You!” Rather, he said, “God will provide FOR HIMSELF the lamb. Provide — that is see. God will see to it! Abraham was confident of it. He believed God, he knew His faithfulness. And they walked on.

Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! Go to Isaiah 53. God saw to it that this sinless Lamb of God bore not only a cross, but our sin, taking the punishment we deserved! And it pleased the Father to do it!

v. 9-10 Isaac willingly accepted being bound and laid on the altar. Abraham was ready to kill and offer his son. It was the same to Abraham as sacrificing himself, for Isaac was his true seed, the promised son.

The Lamb of God, the Son that the Father promised us, willingly accepted being bound, beaten and mocked, for our sake!

v. 11-12 The angel of the Lord (God’s voice) called from heaven. “Abraham, Abraham!” The obedient Abraham said, “Here I am.” Don’t do it! “Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” From Me! It is the Lord who is speaking.

I know you fear God —- literally, I know you are a fearer of God, one who worships, reveres, has confidence in, trusts, and loves (see Easton’s Bible Dictionary).

v. 13-14  A ram, a grown lamb, a sacrifice provided seemingly out of the blue, seen by Abraham as he raised his eyes from the altar on which his one and only son laid. A provision by God! On the mountain of the Lord, the mountain where it shall be seen, Mount Moriah!

Do you see it? Jesus Christ, the grown Lamb of God, the one and only Son of God, offered in place of us, a wrath-bearer, taking upon Himself what we deserved!

And it took place on the mountain called Moriah. Many scholars believe Moriah,  the mountain where Isaac was bound and prepared to be offered, is the very mountain where the Lamb of God was provided by the God the Father!

Do you see Him on the mountain? YHWH yireh, the root of which is of ra’ah, which means to see! If you really see it, you will bow down and worship God the Father and God the Son right now!

v. 15-18  The Lord promises that Abraham’s confidence in Him yields great reward! He repeats His promise from Genesis 12 and 15, but adds that Abraham’s descendants will be as the sand on the seashore, and that they will possess the gates of their enemies.

Beloved, if you believe in and are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are a recipient of this promise (see Romans 9:8)!

Why did the Lord promise? Because Abraham obeyed, knowing the Lord so well at this point in his life, and loving Him, that he trusted Him even with his one and only son.

Isaac is not mentioned again until Genesis 24, when Abraham’s servant is sent to bring a wife for Isaac. Well! What a picture of Christ, three days in the grave and risen, and His bride, the church, being prepared now by the Holy Spirit for Him.

So what will you do in response? While you were yet a sinner, Christ died for you!
While you were yet hostile toward God, He sent His Son! (See Romans 5:8, 10). He demonstrates His own love for us by doing so.

Do you see the Descendant of Abraham, Jesus Christ, through whom the whole world is blessed, when men and women repent, confess their sins, and receive what He has done?

My brother, my sister, fellow believers, and those who are just now believing, will you respond to this grace of God, this love of God, this sacrifice of God on your behalf, this Son who bore our sins?

Confess your condition, confess your rebellion, confess your sin. He will save you who are just now believing!

And brothers and sisters in Christ, your response is Romans 12:1. Christ’s extreme sacrifice requires your extreme commitment, completely and entirely committing yourself to Him! That’s your part of the deal. Then you are able to speak Galatians 2:22 with the Apostle Paul.

Then Christ will live in you and through you, for the glory of God and the salvation of many! Hallelujah!

THE FRUIT OF UNDERSTANDING

[SW163] 11/28/2014 message notes by Sister Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“The Fruit of Understanding”

Why does Jesus Christ command us to bear fruit? So that through us, many repent and are saved from the wrath of God, and become His children!

Text: Matthew 13:12-23

Why does Jesus Christ command us to bear fruit?

So that through us, many:

Repent
Come to faith in Jesus Christ
Are saved from the wrath of God
Are healed in their relationship with God
Receive eternal life
Become citizens of the kingdom of God, and
Become children of God who act like Jesus in this world

And as a result, through them, many repent, come, are saved, receive life . . . it is a perpetual cycle of salvation!

Indeed, if you understand this Word, Matthew 13:16-17 are yours! (Prophets and the righteous have welcomed them from a distance, per Hebrews 11:13).

Where does fruit come from?

Seed.

What is the seed for the fruit Christ commands you to have?

The Word of God (v. 19) — the Bible, the gospel of Jesus Christ, the message from God which is woven throughout the Word, from Genesis through Revelation.

Who is the Sower of this seed?

God.

Into what soil is this seed sown?

Your heart (v. 19).

What is the purpose of sowing the seed?

Fruit-bearing.

What fruit will the Word of God bear?

The fruit that comes from understanding (4862) the message. “Understanding” means:

Becoming united with the Word of God,
Possessing the Word of God
Putting it together like connecting the dots until you see a picture
Acting on it.

What fruit does understanding produce?

Verse 15 — The action called repentance, which means turning away from sin and to God, through Jesus Christ. A change of mind, in the dictionaries, but really, confession of innate sinfulness and a change of heart.

The result is healing. You will be healed in your relationship with God, no longer alienated and hostile to Him because of your sinfulness (Colossians 1:21).

This action then produces His fruit, which is Christlikeness (Galatians 5:22-23).

So, what is the condition for fruit-bearing?

Understanding the message of the Word of God.

What are the consequences and rewards of fruitlessness or fruitfulness?

Verse 12a — Rewards of fruitfulness

If you bear the fruit of understanding which is repentance, you have understood and united with the message of the Word of God and possessed it, and you have connected the dots so you see a picture and act on what you see by repenting.

Then you will have eternal life, and be given more abundant understanding, resulting in being filled with the Spirit and thereby having victory over slavery to sin and unhindered growth in greater and greater Christlikeness (2Corinthians 3:18) — that is, Christ’s attributes will be more and more visible in you.

Verse 12b —Consequences of fruitlessness

If you do not bear the fruit of understanding which is repentance. you have not understood or become united with the message of the Word of God or possessed it, or connected the dots so you see a picture and act on what you see.

What do you have? Nothing but your own ways and your own understanding. That will be taken away from you.You will not have eternal life.

So, how do you know if you have understood?

By the action you take after you have heard the Word of God.

More examples of consequences and rewards

Verse 19 — Consequences of fruitlessness

If you hear the Word and do not understand the message, becoming united with and possessing it, connecting the dots and acting on it by repenting, Satan will take away what has been sown in your heart. And you will not have eternal life but will be cast into the fire and burned (John 15:6).

Verses 20-21 — Consequences of fruitlessness

If you hear it and rejoice but do not understand the message, becoming united with and possessing it, connecting the dots and acting on it by repenting, the Word cannot be firmly rooted in your heart.

As a result, the seed of the Word sown in your heart will shrivel and die when persecution comes because of your association with Jesus Christ, and you will fall away.

That means you will turn away from what you have heard. And you will not have eternal life, but will be cast into the fire and burned.

Verse 22 — Consequences of fruitlessness

If you hear it but do not understand the message, becoming united with and possessing it, connecting the dots and acting on it by repenting, the worry (3308 distractions, cares) of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth will choke the Word that has been sown in your heart, it will die, and you will fall away.

You will turn away from what you have heard because you have allowed these things to overwhelm and crowd it out. You will not have eternal life, but will be cast into the fire and burned.

Verse 23 — Rewards of fruitfulness

If you hear and DO understand, you will have eternal life and you will bear fruit and bring forth greater Christlikeness, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. The amount borne depends on how quickly you seek to grow in Christlikeness.

[NOTE: In Verse 23 and the verses preceding it, has Jesus mentioned anything about money?]

So what will you do with what you have heard?

Here is my prayer for you:

That you will hear and become united with the message of the Word of God, possessing it, putting it together, connecting the dots until you see the big picture and act on it by repenting.

Then you will be given eternal life, and you will be healed, and you will be given even more understanding so you may become even more like Christ, drawing many to Him.

Repentance is the fruit of understanding the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you now understand, I do not need to ask you to repent. You are already doing it.

You are already kneeling in submission and humility, and asking God to forgive you and save you from your sin.

And if you are sincere, you will receive from Him all the rewards that come with understanding the message, becoming united with the message of the Word of God possessing it, connecting the dots so you see the big picture and acting on what you  have seen. You will repent, and will bear fruit, and the cycle of salvation will be continued through you!

PREPARE TO BE FILLED!

[SW162] 11/21/2014 message notes by Sister Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Prepare To Be Filled”

Text:  Isaiah 54

IF you have done Isaiah 52:11 and IF you have agreed with God your need for Isaiah 53, then prepare to be filled! Then you will be more than a conqueror over the Enemy of your soul!

Enlarge what? The place of your tent. You are a tent for the Holy Spirit (2 Cor 5:2, 2 Peter 1:13-14). To be filled with God, you must make room! His promise: If you run in the way of His commandments, He will enlarge your heart (Psalm 119:32).

The key to ALL His promises? Obedience, which happens when you love Him.

Open wide to the Lord (2Corinthians 6:13)! You are restrained by your own affections, He says through the Apostle Paul.

Stretch out

Stretch out what? Your faith in your faithful God!

God is limitless, but we have placed our own limits on Him. We say we must carry around this old, rebellious nature and its sin, but He says, “Cast it off! Believe Me!” (Ephesians 4:23-24).

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through a Word of God. Who will believe His report? To that one, the arm of the Lord will be revealed!

But beware of those who are teaching you because many have whittled Him down to their size, and made Him in their own image, so there is no longer a report to believe!

Lengthen

Lengthen your cords, that which holds the tent together. Lengthen your view of His love (Ephesians 3:14-19), and He will fill you up! Paul’s prayer is for the Ephesian believers, beloved, that they may be filled up!

He will lead you with bonds of love, and lift off your yoke of slavery to sin:

Hosea 11:4      I  led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love,
And  I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws;
And I bent down and  fed them

Strengthen

Strengthen what? Your pegs. The pegs are what make the tent immovable, even when buffeted by wind and weather.

Strengthen that which makes you steadfast, even amidst the buffeting of Satan’s messengers (2Corinthians 12:7).

We must cry out with King David,

Psalms 51:10   Create  in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Steadfast (3559 and 1476, Hebrew and Greek) to be erect, appointed, fixed, prepared, established, and standing, immovable!!

1Corinthians 15:58    Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in  the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Then Verse 3 will be your reward:

You will possess Enemy territory and

You will restore what the Enemy has destroyed!

TRUE LOVE

[SW159] 10/31/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“True Love”

The Lord is urgently calling you to come away! Listen and learn what blocks us from coming away and the Lord’s glorious solution!

Text: Song of Solomon 2:10-13

First, a definition of AGAPE:

— God’s actual love, the same love He has for His Son

— Church so overwhelmed and filled with it in Acts 2 that they chose this unused Greek word for love, to show how different it is from human love!!!!

BUT, FOR MANY:

— Foxes destroy our blossoms, v. 15 (no fruit)
— distractions
— fruit of the flesh, envy, jealousy, in-fighting, hurt feelings,
power plays, sin:

Galatians 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are:  immorality, impurity, sensuality,  20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities,  strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,  21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not  inherit the kingdom of God.

—- Foxes separate us from God (Isaiah 59:2)

SO REPENT:

Isaiah 55:6   Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
7       Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his  thoughts;
And let him  return to the LORD,
And He will have  compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will  abundantly pardon.

O, Lord! You will pardon Your people and change their hearts IF they seek (enter into relationship with) You! But it is a limited time offer — while You may be found.

The Lord speaks this through Isaiah to Israel, who are God’s people. He speaks it to you today. He says, “Come away!” I will destroy the foxes if you will agree that you have them and I will fill your heart with My love.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love [agape] of God is shed abroad [to overflowing] in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

WHAT HE COMMANDS TODAY:

— Psalm 45:10  Forget all but Him
— Romans 5:5 Be filled with His true love, His agape, baptized in the
Holy Spirit!

OUR EXCUSE:

Galatians 5:17 For  the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

We say that our flesh will always war against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. We will always struggle. But the Apostle Paul says:

Galatians 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If something is crucified, is it still alive? No, it is dead! Hallelujah! You don’t have to carry it on your back. It’s gone, completely gone, and can no longer control you.

He says, “Let me destroy your foxes, fix your eyes on Me and Me alone, and I will fill Your heart with My love and My fruit:

Galatians 5:22 But  the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  23 gentleness, self-control [really, Spirit-control]; against such things there is no law.

THE GLORIOUS RESULT:

— He makes us all glorious within (Psalm 45:13ff)!!!
— He makes us the church glorious (Ephesians 5:27)!!!!
— He makes us His beautiful ones
— He makes us able to answer His call to come away with Him!

ENLARGED!

[SW158] 10/24/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Enlarged!”

Oh, God wants to enlarge us, so our hearts are made big enough to contain Him!

Enlarged (7337) — broadened, widened, made into a wide space!

Text: Isaiah 54:1-3

The Lord spoke this to Israel, while they were in captivity, unable to bear, desolate.
And He told them to shout for joy!!! Why? Because He was going to restore them.

He said, “Enlarge!” Make room for Me! Widen your view of Me! Enlarge your understanding of what I can do in the midst of your desolation and barrenness.

His promise? Your desolation will end!

More promises:

Verse 11-12 You are now afflicted and storm-tossed, you are not comforted (returned to Me). But I will garnish you with precious jewels, as a bride is adorned for her Bridegroom!

Verse 13 You will have sons, and they will be taught by Me, and they will have great shalom, peace, wellness, health, spiritual prosperity!

Verse 14-15 I will establish you in My righteousness, and you will no longer be oppressed by fear and terror. No one will assail you — if they try, they will fall.

Verse 16 The Lord created Nebuchadnezzar as His servant to punish Israel for her waywardness. He created all human beings, and uses some for such purposes, to cause ruin that His people would cry out and return to Him.

Verse 17 But once you have returned, no weapon formed against you will prosper, and you will condemn all who accuse you! It is your heritage, your inheritance, when you become a servant of the Lord — one who obeys out of love.

This is reason to shout for joy! God says, prepare yourself, and I will enlarge your heart so I may dwell in you, just as My Son declared in John 14:23!

Enlargement! David, a man after God’s own heart, declared it:

Psalm 119:32  I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will enlarge my heart.

Psalm 119:45  And I will walk at liberty (literally, in a wide space),
    For I  seek Your precepts.

Psalms 118:5    From my distress I called upon  the LORD;
The LORD answered me and  set me in a large place.

Psalms 18:19  He brought me forth also into a  broad place;
He rescued me, because  He delighted in me.

He delights in those whose hearts are His! He delights in those who run in the way of His commandments because He has enlarged their hearts so they can contain Him! He rescues them and sets them in broad places!

Do you see the common thread? It is a promise for those who return.

Isaiah 55:6-7

Seek (1875) — enter into relationship with — God!

It is a limited time offer — it is while He is found, while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts!

Let him turn to the Lord — He will have mercy on him, and FREELY pardon him!

You may say, “Well, that is the Old Testament. It doesn’t apply to the church.” But listen to what Paul spoke to the church at Corinth, for some of them were acting wickedly and unrighteously:

2Corinthians 6:17  “ Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,” says the Lord.
    “AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN;
    And I will welcome you.
18      “ And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be  sons and daughters to Me,”
    Says the Lord Almighty.

It is a quote from Isaiah 52:11. The condition for the promises of God is to separate yourself from wickedness and unrighteousness, in yourself and in the world.

Turn, and all of His promises in Isaiah 54 that I have spoken of will be yours!

Do what is required by God — turn —  and the promise will be fulfilled in you, and you will be filled full of God!

WAKE UP!

[SW157] 10/17/2014 message notes by Rev. Susan J. Wynn ©2014
“Wake Up!”

Today, the Lord asks us to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith (2Corinthians 13:15)!

Text: John 5:24-29
Judgment coming!
— Good, to resurrection of life
— Evil, to resurrection of judgment

How are you walking? (Ephesians 5:1ff)
— In love (His love), verses 1-2?
— Did you give yourself up? It’s the only way to walk in His love!
— Or in evil (verses 3-6)?
— Do you walk as a child of the light (verse 8)?
— Are  you living proof of what pleases God (verse 10)?
— Or are you sleep-walking? Wake up! (verse 14)
— Walk wise (v. 15)
— Redeem the time (v. 16)
— Be filled with the Spirit (v. 17-18). It is the Lord’s will!

If  you do these things, you will not be subject to the judgment Jesus spoke of.

The fruit? You will subject yourself to others, in the fear of Christ (v. 21):
— No more demanding my rights
— No more power plays
— No more one-upmanship
— No more willful disobedience of God, which is sin
— 1 John 2:6 and 4:17
